Donald P. Gould
President, Chief Investment Officer

Donald P. Gould is president and chief investment officer of Gould Asset Management LLC, the investment advisory firm he founded in 1999. Over his 25-year career in the asset management business, he has established a distinguished track record in the development and application of value-added investment strategies.
In 1985 Don founded the Huntington Funds, a group of innovative, globally oriented mutual funds based in Pasadena, California. He joined Franklin Templeton Investments in 1993 upon its acquisition of the Huntington Funds. At Franklin Templeton, Don was president and portfolio manager of the Franklin Templeton Fund Allocator Series, a group of three actively managed global asset allocation funds. He also served as managing director of Templeton Worldwide, Inc. and was responsible for overseeing the establishment of asset management companies in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Cape Town, South Africa.
Don earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Pomona College in 1979 and an MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1981. Since 2002, he has been an adjunct professor of finance at the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management of the Claremont Graduate University. He is currently a member of the Pitzer College Board of Trustees and a director of California Energy & Power of Pomona, California. Don was formerly president of the Pomona College Alumni Association and the Rotary Club of Claremont, and has served on numerous non-profit boards. In his free time, Don enjoys travel, photography, classical music, movies and professional sports.

Thomas K. Carr Jr. CFP®

Tom Carr's primary responsibilities include portfolio management, overseeing investment operations, and client relationship management with investors and investment professionals. He joined Gould in June 2002 and has played an integral role in our ability to provide the highest levels of investment management and client service.
Tom has more than 12 years of experience in the investment industry and achieved the Certified Financial Planner designation in 1997. From 1993 to 2002 he worked for Charles Schwab & Co., where he was the senior investment specialist at the Upland, California branch office and was instrumental in the growth of branch assets to over $1 billion. He also provided planning and investment advice for Charles Schwab clients.
Tom received his bachelor of arts degree in management science from the University of California, San Diego, in 1987. He has served as president and vice president of the Estate Planning Council of Pomona Valley. An avid golfer, Tom also enjoys water sports and basketball.

Suzanne Highet Kaiser, CFA
Portfolio Manager

Suzanne Highet Kaiser has been with Gould Asset Management since 2003. Her responsibilities as a portfolio manager include investment strategy research, analysis, and implementation. She assists in the firm’s economic and market analysis, marketing communications, and compliance. Suzanne is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder, and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Los Angeles.
Before beginning graduate school, Suzanne interned at Angeles Investment Advisors in Santa Monica, California. Prior to her graduate studies, she worked in the marketing department of Price Pfister, a Black & Decker company, in Pacoima, California.
In 2003 Suzanne received a master of arts degree in economics with a concentration in business and finance from the Claremont Graduate University School of Politics and Economics. She earned a bachelor of arts in economics from Carleton College in 1995. Suzanne is an admissions volunteer leader for Carleton College and enjoys reading, music and films, yoga, foreign languages and travel.

Scott B. Smith, CFA
Portfolio Manager

Scott Smith joined Gould Asset Management in 2004. As a portfolio manager, his primary responsibilities include market and investment research, strategy implementation, portfolio monitoring and assisting with marketing efforts. Scott is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder, and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Los Angeles.
Scott completed his MBA degree with an emphasis in finance at the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University in 2004. He was a recipient of the Robert A. Day MBA fellowship and his coursework included asset management, fixed income, new venture finance, and corporate finance. Prior to his graduate work, Scott received a bachelor of arts degree in economics with honors from Claremont McKenna College in 2002.
In a previous position, Scott worked for Tucker Alan Inc. (since acquired by Navigant Consulting) as a business and litigation consultant. There he performed financial and economic analysis, developed financial models, and conducted market and company-specific research. Scott is an avid baseball fan and golfer, who also enjoys traveling and hiking in his free time.

Jeffrey B. Fortner
Investment Analyst

Jeffrey B. Fortner joined Gould Asset Management LLC in 2007 as an Investment Analyst. A year prior to his appointment, he was an intern at the firm. His primary responsibilities include performance reporting, investment research and analysis, and implementation of derivative strategies. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst Level I candidate, and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Los Angeles.
Mr. Fortner received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematical and Applied Economics from Pomona College in May 2007. His coursework has included corporate finance, asset valuation, and statistical and econometric analysis.
He currently lives in Pasadena and in his free time, enjoys traveling, backpacking, diving, and snowboarding.

Stanley P. Haar
Consultant

Stanley Haar is President of Haar Capital Management LLC of Boca Raton, Florida and a consultant to Gould Asset Management. His expertise with commodities, international markets, and limited partnerships makes him a valuable resource to our clients wishing to consider various alternative investments. Stanley works side by side with Gould, supplementing our core investment strategies and enhancing the total value we can bring to clients.
Stanley has over 25 years of commodity and financial market experience, in both domestic and international locales. During the early 1980s, he worked as a commodities broker and trader for Prudential-Bache and Shearson/American Express, managing commercial accounts from Latin America and the Middle East. Stanley also served as a director of Continental Grain Company where he was responsible for all trading, hedging and risk management. Beginning in 1997, Stanley worked with Don Gould at Franklin Templeton Investments, where he assisted in the development of Bradesco Templeton Asset Management, a joint venture in Brazil, and the launch of two Luxembourg-based offshore funds. Prior to launching Haar Capital, Stanley worked as a commodity broker and registered representative with the private client group of Citigroup Smith Barney, coordinating futures trading for high-net-worth and institutional investors.
Stanley holds a JD degree from Stanford Law School, an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Management, and a master’s degree from Stanford’s Food Research Institute, which includes a concentration in agricultural economics, trade policy, and futures markets. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics and international studies, summa cum laude, from The American University. In his free time, Stanley enjoys traveling internationally and brushing up on his Portuguese, Spanish and Hebrew.

Peggy A. Carlson
Director of Marketing, Client Relations

Peggy Carlson joined Gould Asset Management in the spring of 2008 as director of marketing and client relations. Peggy has spent over twenty years in the fee-only financial services industry, focusing on developing new channels of distribution and products for the mutual fund, defined contribution, and registered investment adviser markets. She brings a strong belief, commitment, and enthusiasm for client service and the forging and implementation of best practices.
Peggy received her bachelor of arts degree from Pitzer College in Claremont and also resides in Claremont. As a former road warrior, traveling extensively for business, she is very happy to be working so close to home. When not engaged at Gould Asset Management, she enjoys reading, art and films, travel, and spending time with her extended family, who all live close by.

Catherine L. Marshall
Business Development, Client Relations

Catherine Marshall joined Gould Asset Management in June 2008. Her responsibilities include business development and client relations. Catherine has thirty years’ experience in the financial services industry, most recently having worked five years at Glencrest Investment Advisors.
Catherine has completed the Certified Financial Planner education program from the College for Financial Planning at UC Irvine and has earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary professional designation, awarded by the Center for Fiduciary Studies. Catherine currently lives in Brea and in her free time, enjoys golf, reading, quilting and an occasional bike ride to the beach.

Lillyann Funcion
Investment Operations

Lilly Funcion's primary responsibilities at Gould Asset Management are corporate and investment administration. She oversees much of the day-to-day investment operations and transactions for the firm and is integral in initializing new accounts. Lilly is a key resource for clients and financial advisers who have questions about the administration of their accounts.
Lilly has nine years experience in the investment management industry. She began her career with Roxbury Capital Management in Santa Monica, California, where her duties involved client service support, performance composite construction and overseeing AIMR audits. As a member of the compliance committee, her role was to ensure the firm's internal policies were in accordance with applicable regulations. She continued her career at Western Asset Management as an associate, working closely with marketing directors and client service managers in business development activities.
Lilly holds a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Woodbury University. She resides in La Verne where she enjoys spending time with her family.

John Bloom
Corporate Administration

John Bloom joined Gould Asset Management in November 2007 after working at the firm as a consultant for over a year. He is primarily responsible for Gould’s accounting and compliance, and brings over seven years of accounting experience to the firm. In addition to his accounting expertise, John also has 20 years experience in marketing communications, including directing live television newscasts, managing client accounts as an advertising agency account manager, and implementing marketing communication strategies.
John segued to accounting while he was with a local advertising agency. He assumed the role of company accountant in addition to his responsibilities as an account manager and media director.
John earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Radio-Television from California State University at San Diego with an emphasis in Business Administration. In his free time, he enjoys golf, his video camera, and working on his garden railroad.

Natalie A. Blickenstaff
Executive Assistant

Natalie Blickenstaff joined Gould Asset Management in 2006 as Executive Assistant to the President and CIO. Natalie has prior administrative experience as Assistant to the Director of the Peter F. Drucker School of Management and most recently, for nine years, as Assistant to the Provost at Claremont Graduate University.
Natalie earned her bachelor’s degree in English from California State University in San Diego and later a bachelor’s degree in Music (piano performance) from California State University, Fullerton. After graduation she was active in the California Music Teachers’ Association and taught piano for 26 years. Natalie enjoys reading, music and films, exercise and travel.
